At the risk being simplistic, digital means nothing more
than that at some stage a computer has been involved. It
might mean a digital camera, or negatives and prints
scanned into a computer format.
Throughout this site you
will find computers involved at every stage. On my
Computer
Paintings pages
you
will see samples of photographs turned into "computer"
paintings, and examples of backgrounds changed. On the
portrait
pages, the
photos were first retouched by computer. The
enhancements
page talks more about
what can be done with people.
People and objects can be moved and removed (see the Restorations
page), Parts
of the photo can be painted and other parts left untouched for stunning
effects.

The most obvious advantage of a digital camera is speed. Photos are
almost instantly available for use. Professional ones,
such as the
Fuji (Nikon) Finepix S5
(I have two), are
full-featured cameras that can take full advantage of
equipment such as studio strobes and have all the
controls that "real" camera have, and much,
much more.
Another advantage is quality. The Fuji Finepix S5
Professional camera can create images which can be
enlarged beyond 40 x 60 inches in some cases with
astonishing resolution and a degree of control far
beyond what film-based cameras ever imagined.
It's a great new adventure. |
